Crossmember may be the weak point?

I don't see why it would be any weaker than the OE pintle. Though I've never heard that rating.

I'd guess the weakness is that they only bolt to the one face of the crossmember, and that a drop-hitch could put a twisting motion to the crossmember. If I make one for my own truck, I'll extend the receiver inwards and bolt to an added gusset that bolts to inner face. Just a couple bolts would make the receiver/crossmember as strong as any square tube system on the market. A 6x6" tube instead of a 2x2.

I like the idea not for towing, but accessories like steps, vise mounts, winch, potty, additional carrying basket for greasy stuff...
