It might be enough to do the job. When you improve the compression ratio, it allows you to get better performance from your fuel - it needs the higher comp to burn properly - also shaving the head slightly improves the squish characteristic of the design allowing it to burn the fuel more evenly, so you don't lose as much torque. Be careful judging by seat of pants, you might think you are in a larger size, but it's often just noisier ;-)
