A wide, short, tube is a tough shape to bend regardless of the material. When bending, you need to stretch the outside radius a lot and compress the inside radius a lot, all without it flattening out much. I really can't see much success in bending a water outlet elbow to any extent even if it were made of mild steel, soft copper, or lead. If I needed a slightly different angle, I'd try to take it up with the hose, maybe using a section of a pre-bent hose designed for some modern vehicle. I'll often "shop" all the modern hoses hanging on the wall in the auto parts store to find one that has the right bend in it at some point so I can cut out that section and use it on an old rig.
