Hard to tell from here what you have. We're kind of guessing. If you have a foot-pedal starter, you'll need to have somebody help you, or you'll need to use a crowbar or something to actuate it from inside the engine compartment while you're looking at whatever you need to look at. If your key switch is just an ignition switch, bypass it for test purposes by running a wire from the hot battery post direct to the spark coil. Forget about ballast resistors for now. If you don't leave it hooked up too long, you won't burn up the coil or the points.

The switch you bought is for use with a more modern vehicle with either a starter with a built-in solenoid, or a bendix-type starter with a remote (Ford) solenoid relay. In either case, you'd clip one wire to the hot battery post and clip the other to the small terminal on the solenoid.

Whatever you do, don't try to clip that switch between the battery and the heavy post of the starter motor downstream of the solenoid. If you do, the switch wires will go up in smoke quickly when you push the button. It's not meant to carry anywhere near full starter motor current.
