Previous lives as wood worker, artisan in general, and machinist of various materials, leads me to keep an open mind about materials. You just don't know. Like plastcs are highly abrasive compared to metals, or some stones ring like a bell, and others are dead. Granite = dead, grainy sand stone rings.
'Fuzzyiness' of cottonwood aside, it may be just the ticket for some uses that don't require sanding.
Though I do take exception to motor oil as a wood finish. It is so loaded with anti-oxidants that it will stay oily for ever. Not like wood finishing oils, which have so many accelerants in it that rags will spontaneously combust.
