So I'm joyfully starting to wrench on my PW, started at the back axle, calipers frozen, leaking seals, stuff to be expected. Putting my shopping list together... I move to the front axle, the right side seems in pretty good shape. The left side has a considerable amount of up and down play in the knuckle. I disassemble it and in the grease at the bottom of the knuckle is a good size (approx 1/2" X 1/4" X 3/16") chunk of machined steel with one edge clearly broken off of something. I put it aside for safe keeping and of course now can't find it for the life of me. I clean all the grease out, and to my untrained eye, it looks like something pretty catastrophic happened in the knuckle at some point. there's gouges in the interior of the knuckle and the trunnions also look like they have been re-welded in at some point. I've (hopefully) attached a link to an album with pictures, maybe someone could tell me more about what I'm seeing?
