My topless, 6bta Ramcharger has shed just about as much weight as possible relative to a W250, except I still have a Dana 70 and a Dana 60 up front. I don't think I've gained much fuel mileage improvement. It sits tall, so still pushes the same amount of wind. The automatic probably eats some efficiency even with a custom torque converter. It has free flowing exhaust, but that efficiency is counteracted by me putitng my foot in it, because I cant resit the listening to the unrestrained diesel sound.

The best fuel mileage could probably be achieved with a 2WD truck, five speed, and the tallest gears you can get (even if you downgrade to something smaller than a Dana 70). Open up the exhaust and the intake for free flow, maximize the cooling and dense air charge achieved by the intercooler. Instead of turning up the fuel, optimize the turbo (you can add an electroncially contolled variable turbo to a mechnical disel) to match the RPMs and load your running. Mount hard, skinny tires. Ceramic wheel bearings are more precisely round, and certain lube oils can provide less rolling resistence.
