I learned that when Super Pup hits the right part of her sleep cycles, she will sleep through anything- including clipping a toe nail. It's when she is 'dreaming'- legs twitching, and vocalizing. I can sneak the clippers up to a claw, and SNAP. It worked so good it surprised me and I didn't try another nail before she opened her eyes. No signs of pain, using clippers with a 'depth stop'. What may have helped too is that I've been teaching her to 'shake hands', also petting her paws when she's on my lap. Just getting her used to the idea of me messing with her toes.
I'm hoping that by the time the pedicure is done she gets more comfortable with the idea. Last one did wkae her, maybe the noise. She seemed kind of dazed, like "WTF? A minute ago I was chasing a rabbit, now I'm lying in bed..."

Two claws down, 12 to go.
