That's a big step in the right direction, but before trying to start it, make sure it has compression and oil pressure. To do that, you don't need to buy anything. Jumpering to a 12 volt battery in another vehicle will suffice for cranking. Make sure there is oil up to the right level and that all that diesel you poured in didn't end up in the oil. Attach a mechanical oil pressure gauge some way or another. Crank until you have oil pressure. If you do, go on to the compression test. Put the compression tester in each hole sequentially and see what you have. If any is low (<90 lbs) put a few good squirts of oil on top of the piston (be sure to squirt to the side of the spark plug hole, not just straight into it) and try again. If you have some degree of oil pressure (maybe 15-20 lbs), and good dry compression in all cylinders, THEN it's time to get that other stuff and see if it will run.
