polys make more torque sooner than any LA 318. I towed alot with a couple D300s and they loved to tow. Where as my later Dodges with LA 318s suffered in low and mid range. when towing its basically constantly in midrange on the hiway. that is where the poly really stands out. I had to remember to back off the pedal all the time on the flats to keep it at the desired speed. that was just with dual exhaust no other mods.
