What makes a PW special to me is the design. Probably the best looking truck ever built, designed to be worked on by folks with little mechanical ability. They are simple & cheap (comparatively) to restore.
Driving them? Tiny inside, cramped, slow & grossly under powered. The bed is fragile, the running gear so noisy it sounds like it's self destructing.
Quaint you say? :)
I guess...very similar to every other 40's vehicle when it comes to driving. I mean Paul M summed it up perfectly last forum...what truck does he drive most? The M37.
M37 is night & day between a WDX-WM300 both on & off road but when it comes to looks...or working on it..they can't even be discussed in the same sentence as a PW.
That's my take...& I've driven them thousands & thousands of miles....but once they need no more work...I find myself always wanting to sell them & move onto the next project. I guess if I had money & space I'd keep them & maybe even drive them once in a while but there is just so much more enjoyment taking one like Clark's & making it capable of driving after being left for dead....no?
Don't you get a HUGE thrill buying an old wreck & hearing the sound when you get her to fire up for the first time in 30 years? To challenge yourself & work all the bugs out & finally take it out for its first uncomfortable ride? :) :)
