I was underneath my trailer the other day adjusting the brakes in preparation for the Iowa trip. I noticed that the nuts on the bottom of the U bolts were all rusted to just about nothing. This trailer was built in 2004 and has rusted faster than Dad's old Pinto. I bought 8 new Ubolts and 16 nuts and one by one cut off the old ones and installed new ones. The bolts were rust colored, but not scaly like the nuts, which were pretty much completely scale.
8 year old trailer, occasional use, rarely in the winter, rusted out.
60 year old Power Wagon, nuts underneath turn them off with a wrench.
Chinese steel?
So, what I am getting at is this. Take the time to crawl under your trailers and inspect stuff like this. I cant imagine it would be fun to spit out a couple of axles pulling your Power Wagon down the Interstate.
Be Safe!
Tim
