Don't mistake CNG for propane or LPG. Currently, CNG is gaseous during storage and thus requires a much more robust storage system. The tanks must be larger to contain the same volume of expanded gas and they must also be stronger as the pressure is on the order of KPSI. This results in much heavier and larger tanks to contain enough gas to even come close to the normal range provided by a fuel stored in liquid state. There is a significant energy cost to compress it to such high pressures, though the equivalent does appear to hover at about 1/3 the cost of gasoline.
