Perhaps a slant six instead

I've also looked into using a slant six as well. True not as authentic but a much better baseline to start with and besides it is also a Dodge product.

A lot of people don't realize it but for a couple of the first years of production of the slant six (in the Valiant at least) an aluminum block was available - although not and aluminum head. Also, Richard Petty used to race the slant six in earlier years.

The slant six can be tweaked to output some pretty good numbers as well as being virtually bulletproof.

The Petty raced Clifford Hyper-Pack is still available as is a performance distributor (with Orange Box) from Mopar Performance.
