I remember a few years ago (around 1995), a guy named Michael Johnson wrote an article for the Power Wagon Advertiser, about his WWII 3/4-ton ambulance or carryall (?). He said he had balanced the engine, installed a hi-performance cam, dual carbs, headers, hi-compression head, electronic ignition, 4.89's. He said he used the truck for his photography work, carrying a fair amount of equipment at highway speeds all around the country. His typical mileage, if I remember right, was about 15 mpg. This seems really high, especially for a heavy truck like a carryall. That's as good as my 1/2-ton 1990 Ford with worn-out 302 V-8!

My mileage, on a '49 flatfender with stock worn-out engine and 4.89's is typically 8-9 mpg.

Has anyone else gotten mileage as high as Mr. Johnson's? What have you fellow Power Wagoneers gotten, in terms of mileage with your old flatfenders?

Just curious, more than anything else.
