I have a jeep wrangler, and because the rear driveline is so short, I got vibration with a 2.5" lift. I have heard the maximum u-joint angle you should have is 15 degrees. But, just as important is that the u-joint angles of both u-joints on a drive shaft should be equal and opposite. So you don't want to shim the rearend up so it points directly to the xfer case, because the u-joint angles would be too different. Although if you have a CV u-joint, you want to do this.
