In March, 1916, three Dodge touring cars became the first motor vehicles used in combat by the US Army. They replaced the Cavalry’s horses during a “punitive expedition” pursuing Pancho Villa’s raiders back into Mexico after they attacked Columbus, New Mexico. The Army forces were led by a young Lieutenant named George S. Patton. The Dodge’s performance impressed General John “Blackjack” Pershing and he was instrumental in establishing the Army’s use of Dodge vehicles for most of the century. If there had been no Villa, would there be a Power Wagon?
