I redid my windshield/frame a few years ago,(55C3PW), and my frame was welded; the center ribbed portion of the first frame is missing from the second. The ends pry off with gentle leverage, the main body of the ribbed portion was stuck to the middle support with a thick tar like tape, and the folded over ends. It appears to me that this ribbed portion was merely decorative.
