You Understand

Most people just don't understand.

I drove by a petroleum construction company one day in '95, and there it was. 7'4" tall, for sale sign in the window. It wasn't there that night. It was in my driveway. My wife laughed when I brought it home. She didn't understand. "Why did you buy that?" Explaining the virtues of owning a Power Wagon did little to convince her. "I don't want "that" sitting in our driveway. It's ugly."

Too bad. It's here, and it's going to stay. You'll see. Soon, you won't be laughing.

The years pass, and she's not laughing anymore. Dozens of "honeydo's" later, moving friends, hauling diverse debris, trips to the beach, tearing out unwanted trees, etc., and she's seeing the light....slowly. "I wish you'd have it painted. Then I wouldn't be afraid to be seen in it." But beauty is more than skin deep my love. Besides, I wouldn't want to ruin it's character :)

Even now, it's the most sought after truck in the county. I can't go anywhere without someone wanting to buy it. "Nice truck, wanna sell it?" Nope, I say with a smile. "Lemme know if you change your mind." Don't count on it. This truck is MINE! And, no, I won't be buried in it, but it will take me to my final resting place. I don't wanna ride in no hearse. Just put me in the back of my truck and haul me out. Couldn't think of a better way to get there.

And after I'm gone, use her for what she was intended to be used. A workhorse. Treat her right, but don't be too gentle. She can handle it. In fact, she loves it. She's happy when she's working. And when you want to play, she's more than happy to play, and play rough. Treat her right, and she'll give you years of devotion and service.

But most people still don't understand. I'm glad I found this forum, where people understand. Thanks, Joe, for providing a place for us to share a common bond, the love of our trucks, and the help that so many offer. It's a great place to be!
