Engine is stock, but it has power steering and power brakes so not enough room for the battery in the opinion of the last owner.
I had the same questions when I was looking at the photos before I bought it and saw that others had done similar placements. Works well so far, the Red Top battery is well protected where it sits. if I were to do serious four wheeling I would build a shroud to protect it better, but I don't expect to go off road with it.
