I have a '61-68 hydraulic bellhousing, slave cylinder, and flywheel from a Poly engine. The transmission I have in my garage was married to an NP241 transfer case in a '90 W250, so it has the long output shaft. If I could use the newer NP435 with the old bellhousing, that would be great. The only issue is the output shaft, then? I thought I HAD to use both the Poly input shaft/clutch/pressure plate setup with that particular flywheel, or have the 172-tooth ring gear adapted to my 360 flywheel, plus change the output shaft to the earlier, super short one in order to use the intermediate shaft to my transfer case. Ray's instructions are actually rather vague, so I'm scratching my head trying to figure out EXACTLY what I need. I'm going to try to upload a couple of pictures of the truck/transmission that I don't know what it is, but as for the other one, since it has an aluminum top shifter plate and is a 4-speed, it HAS to be an NP435, right? I thought NP420s all had cast iron "tower-type" tops. Thanks, guys. I'll get with Matt, and the others as well.
