It’s all about regaining perspective, Bill.

I’ve found several ways to regain perspective when I get stressed. A lot of them have already been mentioned here. Walking. Running. A drive through the countryside. Spending time with a good dog.

I often visit my Dad’s grave site at the cemetery when I'm feeling frazzled and worn down. The serenity of the place brings a kind of balance back.

It's quiet, and you can hear sounds you don’t hear in other places, and the wind in the trees makes a hushing sound. There's a bench I sit on, and rest there, and think about my family and how fortunate I am that I have them, and that they are healthy and reasonably happy. I think about the life we have had up until now, and the future full up with opportunity and rough patches and joy.

And then I think about my dad.

The stress seems to let up and I feel back to myself. Perspective, you might call it.
