I have always had large big bone German Shepherds. I now have a Shepherd and a Lab.
I have always taught my dogs that trimming nails, cleaning ears and a check of teeth is a part of life. They have always been trained that when I say Toes and Ears, they go and lay on their side. No issues, no nonsense, they just lay down and let me do the job. When done, they get a dog biscuit. My vet also suggested one drop of Alcan Tears
(same as I use in my eyes) each time we do toes and nails. All this does if gets them used to me putting a drop in each eye....should they ever need eye meds, they know its no issue.
Its all in training, being gentle and having
your dog know your not going to hurt him/her.
