Well, it just got more interesting. I looked at the steering shaft where it comes out of the firewall and saw a loop of blue double strand wire (almost like thick speaker wire) coming from the horn button I am assuming and then out of the shaft column going back in the firewall. I pulled the dust cover off the column inside and there was the blue wire cable tied to the shaft with a frayed loose end and another ripped 8-inch piece of wire laying under the cover.

Whoever wired it while the last owner was waiting on a horn, cable-tied tied it to the steering shaft and then never hooked it up, and also not realizing the wire would wrap around the shaft when you turned the wheel. This seems to coincide with the guy I spoke to who did the mechanicals. Sheesh!

So I'm disconnecting both wires to the horn until I can pull the horn button next week and redo the ground. Has anyone ever seen a double strand thin wire like I describe above used for a ground? I haven't. I plan to go with the 14-gauge as shown in the diagram. Goodness knows what I'll find when I pull the horn button. Any other recommendations are appreciated.

This about the 5th very stupid thing done by the last owner (or those he hired since he seemed to have shops do virtually all the work) I've found and had to correct. I am learning a lot from someone else's mistakes...
