That's a sorry commentary on our priorities these days, but I can't imagine how you could petition to have someone's sentence increased. You can't even petition on how you want to have them sentenced before they're sentenced. I've never heard of going back and re-sentencing someone to a more severe punishment. I mean, you can give anybody a petition for anything, but I can't see how this could have any legal effect at all.

That said, let's see here... driving while intoxicated on two different drugs, possession of a controlled substance, failure to yield, failing to render assistance, using a cell phone while driving, and oh, yes... vehicular manslaughter. And she's out in a month.

It's too bad they didn't find an empty 30-round AK-47 magazine in her car. If that had been the case, she'd probably get at least 5 years in prison. If they'd found the whole gun, they'd probably lock her up for life. In California, having a gun that could possibly kill someone someday is clearly a much more severe crime than driving a car that, though your own fault, actually did kill someone. Heck, in California she'd probably get punished harder for tampering with the smog system on her car than for killing someone with it.
