Wayne, I was thinking about you when I did this post. I knew you were getting ready to replace the front seal.

There was plenty of oil at both ends of the pan, including around the front seal. I just figured the front seal was bad since the previous two FFPW engines I did both needed redi-sleeves. But, this engine was low mileage and did not have a groove worn into the pulley seal surface.

When I saw the cracks in the pan gasket at both ends, I wondered if I had really needed to replace the front seal. But, I probably would have anyway since I had the front off.

Thanks to the other guys. I haven't tried to put on the gasket yet and didn't realize that the center pieces may be cut long. That explains why one of the center pieces was sticking up on one side. Whoever installed it (it may be factory OEM) left one side long instead of trimming it or trying to compress it. It also explains why the two pieces broke (cracked) in the center. They had been stretched into place rather than compressed. Guess it's a good idea to give it a little wiggle room.

At least I won't have to replace the rear seal which I was dreading.
