Ed and All,
I have vapor lock from time to time on my Dodge, but I have been fighting it for years on my '56 T-bird. On the T-bird I have:
1) Installed a electric fuel pump
2) Got rid of the exhaust block off
3) Put a carb gasket from CoolCarb
4) Pusher fan
5) Aluminum Radiator
6) Blocked the exhaust that was ported though the intake manifold
7) Checked and double checked timing, took to a professional mechanic to verify my work
8) Insolated the fuel lines.
The only thing that fixed it was using aviation fuel. I can buy it at a local airport. It's 100 octane, leaded (and $5.20 a gallon). I am experimenting with how much aviation fuel mixed with the stuff they sell now.
On the t-bird (and model A) forums they have people adding ATF or diesel to a tank of gas to lower the boiling temperature. I couldn't get myself to pour that stuff in my gas.
Sorry for the long winded response but I have been messing with this for a time. I think it is worse in Colorado due to boiling at lower temperature because of the altitude.
Rich
