Mikey may be on the right track though. Perhaps some deficiency in the fuel supply system is actually the main problem which is then exacerbated by heat.
I'd first make sure I have good pressure and flow at carb inlet before I started doing anything else. You should get something like a pint of fuel in less than 30 seconds and have a static pressure around 3-4 lbs.
Is it possible that the electric fuel pump is causing a restriction?
