64 years ago, the in-laws lived next door. Gasoline was sixteen cents a gallon. Power brakes and steering weren't even readily known about or available. Replacing generator brushes, setting valve lash, brake shoes and point gaps were a frequent hassle. Nothing stopped on a silver dollar, let alone a dime. Vacuum wipers stopped working when you climbed a hill. Work was physically harder and most often within walking distance of home. Common sense was truly common, and people thought cigarettes had zero ill effects on the body. Everyone's neighbor was a friend, or family. A 2x4 measured a full 2" by 4". Families stayed together through thick and thin. Children respected their parents, and provided for their entire family, not just thinking themselves and feeling entitled. When you ordered a cup of Joe, you got coffee-flavored coffee. Things were built to last, not to simply last until the warranty ran out. If someone asked a question, the reply didn't consist of smoke, heading in a northerly direction within an orifice of the person who was inquiring... and so on, and so fifth (Victor Borge).

I work six days a week. My wife and I have a five year-old son who is starting school this fall. I'm 35 and have been at the same company for 19 years, and it was my first job. I came from an extremely poor, hard-working family. I'm not retired, wealthy, or someone who ever sits down long enough to watch a 30-minute sitcom, because I have bills to pay and a budding family to support. If I want something, I work for it and pay cash. My wife and I share one vehicle because my truck isn't as safe to for our son to ride in, as easily driveable, as dependable as her car is. I want my Power Wagon to be my daily transportation and be able to stand in if something happens to her car. She's not strong enough to drive it, and it scares me to death to think of something happening to them because she couldn't turn, stop or see well enough to avoid it. I make sacrifices every single day for my company, my family, and my country. If I want a '50 Power Wagon as a daily driver with a smallblock, Danas, power disc brakes, power steering and electric wipers, I'm going to do just that. When I ask for advice about something, I appreciate help, not sarcasm. I know quite well what these trucks were DESIGNED for; I didn't buy one because I thought they were cute.

I've saved money, time, and stress because of help and good advice from Matt, Will, Ron, Bill, and others on this forum. I owe them a lot and appreciate it more than they'll ever know. They've each made their trucks unique, and their own. The ingenuity and hard work shows in them; had they kept them stock, I probably wouldn't care to even have one anymore. If you want to keep your '48 as it is, that's good. I don't want a '50 like your truck. I want a '50 like MY truck. I thought it had been duly noted before.

For the record, I actually LIKED the radiator cap idea. It was something different. Was it a bad thing, then?
