How are you sizing the channel? C6x8.2 (what you're using) is most likely overkill. If the channel is full supported, then it is most certainly overkill and simply adds to weight and cost. If you gave some clear span distances (sounds like what Jerry has) and projected weights, you could better size your steel members.
