So Vermont recently came out with these licence plates. Front only, cost $25 and the proceeds go toward hurricane Irene relief. A good cause and I thought it would look good on the front of Blueberry. So yesterday I put it on. Vermont has a law requiring a front plate, so they had to make an exception in the Statehouse to allow its use. You need to install this plate OVER your existing plate. Hows that for govt logic?
Anyway, today was a beautiful day so I decided to drive Blueberry to work. Ran fine all the way there. Mid day I needed to return from the jobsite to the shop to mill up some materials. I was about 6 miles from the shop, and had a car right on my tail. There is a back road (dirt) that I sometimes take so I decided to go that route and not have a car on my bumperettes! I turned onto the dirt road, and about a half mile in there is a fairly long steep hill. I got almost to the top and she started bucking as if I was out of gas. The gauge read 1/4, andjust this morning I was wondering where the gauge would read on empty! seems I dound out. I backed it down the hill to a small pull off at the bottom. No problem, I have a gas can on the fender! Yeah, an empty one. I had to muster up my courage to call my Wife to bring me a full gas can. Reason being, she is a CPA, and in full tilt boogie mode trying to finish her tax returns. So I called her, and she was willing to bring me a can. Not wanting her car to smell like gas she brought my truck. As I was dumping in the gas, she said "See you later" I asked her if she would hang around until it started. She rolled her eyes, I was quickly using up my allocation of good will. I got the gas in, and cranked. She fired, but wouldnt catch, then after a few of those, it wouldnt even fire. I asked her if she would give me a tow home. She shot right back "No way, it will take way too long." I said it wont take any longer than just driving home. She said I had 2 minutes to get it hooked up. Had a chain in the truck, and it was hooked up in less than a minute! Probably one of the faster tows I have gotten, but we made it back to the shop, I tossed the chain off her hitch and off she went back to her office. I spent a minute checking things out and determined that my fuel pump (Yes Bill it is a mechanical one) was given up the ghost. NOS and less than a year in service. I suspect a combination of 50 year old rubber and ethanol gas. I have another NOS pump I will change it with and then send it out for a rebuild using the ethanol safe rubbers.
So, thats my story!
Tim
