Dave,
Here's some info for you. I bought my IR about 15 years ago. It's an 80 gal 7 1/2 HP 220 single phase unit. AFTER I bought it I was gathering supplies and went to a local compressor repair shop. The guy behind the counter relayed why IR's current design is weak.

They have what is called a hanging crank. 2 roller bearings on one end of the shaft and nothing on the other. He said in high usage situations they don't last long. My T30's pump was made in India and I'd bet the are still using them.

That said, Mine hasn't blown up yet and I have sandblasted a lot with it using a 180 pound pot. I do change the oil every 2 years and the only issue I had was with a dump valve that went bad. It looked like it basically melted from heat and the new one was a different design.

Anything more than a 3/16" opening on the tip and it'll run just about constant. Takes a LOT of air for the big tips.

After Paul's mentioning of Eaton compressor I went to them when my dump valve went bad. They were EXTREMELY nice and helpful but found that IR valves are odd and you have to use their parts. I'll definitely go to them if mine dies in the future.

I will say it looked like they might use foreign made stuff as well as it looked like they assemble the stuff to order. Everything looked really nice and professional and they really know their stuff. If you decide on one from them let me know as I'm close by.

Good luck with your purchase! Kevin
