I didn't even know my hood had batteries. IIIRC, when I bought it it said "no batteries needed".

But it does. And after not using it for several months, apparently they had run down. (hey, maybe that is what the 'off' switch is for? ya think? ;) ) Anyways, first couple days it was a bit erratic. But once I started leaving it in the direct sun when not on my head, it worked much better. So this morning I attacked it with the phillips screwdriver, and found TWO lithiums. Like computer batteries, only bigger. #2450? I checked them , 3.65 volts, so I figure a couple hours in the sun charged them up.

I figure it runs off the batteries, and recharges them via the little solar panel. But if they are tooo dead, they need a bit of a boost. I've been tig welding on 35 amps, maybe it isn't enough of the correct wavelength for the silicon photovoltaics?

Current(pun) SOP is set it in the sun first thing, while I string out the cords, prime and adjust the gas, arrange the chair. And turn it off when I put it away for the night.
