Most of those predictions are probably about right. There is no constitutional "right to drive" on the public roads. My only consolation is that Idaho will probably be one of the last states to implement these ridiculous "safety" and "environmental" regulations. They tried a few years ago to pass smog testing and couldn't even get that through. On the other hand, if I cross the border into one of the left coast states, I'll probably be fair game for all kinds of revenue-enhancing fines, like the $120 seat belt ticket I got in Spokane last year.

The real killer for driving old rigs probably won't be mandatory GPS, air bags, and smog rules, though. It'll be unaffordable gas. What happens if the new vehicles all start to transition to alternative fuels like alcohol, diesel, or propane? Gasoline might be something you have to buy at a race track for $20/gallon.
