Sort of like that song... the knee bone is connected to the thigh bone, the thigh bone is connected to the hip bone.
I make it a point to replace the diaphragm in every fuel pump, of any "project" I intend to take out into public. Points too if there are any. Having shipped a nice shiny red F-12 tractor over an hour to a show, only to drive off the trailer and have it stall because fuel is not getting to the carb, in front of all those onlookers. Never again I promised myself, would I skimp on a 25 dollar fuel pump kit. Now imagine that happening 57 miles from home and on the side of the road. Pay a little more now for good parts, or pay more later.
