That pipeline was to pick up N Dakota oil as well, and it was to go to refineries in the US. Yes, they will probably export some of the finished fuel, but it's still a lot of jobs and money kept in this country compared to if we let the Canadians process their own oil. You know how they're getting N Dakota crude to the refineries these days? In tanker trucks. That's nuts.

Besides, if having a network of pipelines just means more exports, then why don't we tear up the pipelines we have since that will keep more oil in the US? That pipeline would be built with 100% private money (e.g. rich greedy oil company money) and almost the entire cost would end up in paychecks to American workers. More oil would be refined in the US with it than without it. Maybe it's not as perfect as you'd like, but all those things are good.
