Hi Tom,
Not really sure. Truck sat for several months, then I realized there was no reason not to be driving it since winter has been a no-show. I drive it to Burlington last week, about 20 miles each way. I noticed going there that my temp was rising. It got up to 220, and I noticed I was really smoking at stop lights. I got where I was going, and when I came out, I checked the coolant. It was low, and I had some antifreeze with me, I dumped in about 3/4 gallon. Truck started really hard, and when it fired off, blew a large white cloud of smoke. It ran at normal temp all the way home, and the smoke seemed to improve. At home, I again checked the oil and coolant and they were both clean.
I had never re-torqued the head, (true confession time) so today, I did, and got between 1/8 and 1/4 turn on the wrench before it clicked. So, head was "loose" now good, but it is not known if the gasket suffered damage while the head was loose.
After the re-torque, I didnt have time to test drive, but she was still smoking. Not sure if it takes awhile to burn off the antifreeze, or if it is still getting a new supply of antifreeze through a compromised gasket.
Thanks,
Tim
