yeah, probably the most dangerous part of corrosion on a vehicle. Like I mentioned above, the loss of base material is usually not a huge deal.
For example, we have done testing on rebar that has sat out for 20+ years. We bang the rebar on the rocks and beat enormous flakes of rust off the bar. Even with severe corrosion, all bars ended up passing or being VERY close to passing strength testing.
