I always oven-bake small metal parts after painting them these days. Let them dry enough to not be sticky and give them half a day or so at 250 degrees. It will dull extremely glossy paint slightly, but it really helps with the adhesion and the wear-resistance. On large parts, the most practical curing method is to put them out in the hot sun, but that only works during the summer. Anything you can do to etch the surface helps a lot too. Paint is never going to stick to smooth shiny nuts and bolts very well.
