Sunday I walked across the family room floor just like I normaly do. One step was funny squishy. I looked and the area rug had a bump. I stepped on it again and squish. Pulled up the rug and the parquet floor was bubbled up and the bottom of the rug was wet. I stepped on parquet and water came out like a fountain. My response brought the wife running.

We strted looking for the source and it took 20 minutes. We found the main water shut off valve leaking really badly. The bushing had failed. I shut it off and my wife and I spent the next 9 hours taking the room apart. We pulled the floor, built in cabinets and 50 linear feet of drywall. The drywall was wet 2 feet off the floor as they had installed it resting on the slab. What a mess. The water also went under an interior wall and under the carpet in that room which had just been totally redone down to bare studs a year ago. Dodge content: My 51 PW bed is full of all the debris.

Monday my insurance got a crew there to dry it out (I already had 2 industrial fans running). My floor guy says 7K+ JUST to replace the parquet (700+ sq ft). This is going to be expensive for them. The one cabinet was badly dammaged which means all new base and wall cabinets since they cannot match it nor do I think they will pay for a custom built one. We will see what happens.

No personal items were dammaged. Water came 1 foot away from all my family pictures from the early 1900's.
