If you read the whole article, in between all the ufology, there isn't anything else about any attempt to drag it. When a reporter can't even get the grammar right, it's hard to say what actually happened. Maybe somebody told her that somebody tried to drag it with "a 4x4" and she assumed a full-size pickup when what they meant was a four-wheeler (ATV). Given that it's illegal to drive on the beach anywhere along that whole stretch, and most beaches aren't accessible even if someone chose to ignore the law, I have my doubts that anyone tried to drag it with a 4WD pickup.

We don't really know how heavy "that heavy" is. Somebody probably tried to push it by hand and couldn't. If they're hollow steel boxes weighing 2000 lbs, which is quite plausible, nobody could budge them by hand or with an ATV. Even a light pickup would have some trouble. Since all these mystery boxes are on the beach, not inland somewhere, they presumably floated ashore. Even the silly UFO speculation assumes they floated there.

Basically the article is so badly written, spends so much time off on UFOs and conspiracy theories, and is so short on actual facts, that I have no idea what the root of the story could possibly be. For now, I'm going with shipping containers of some sort. And by the way, if we're to believe that the thing is half-way sunk in the sand and no human force can move it, how are we also supposed to believe that it has a completely smooth surface with no hatches or other openings? Nobody's looked at the bottom half.

I think they are lighter than claimed and are of mundane origin. There still might be something neat inside. Given that the men in black haven't showed up and picked them up, like happens when an Air Force plane crashes in the boonies somewhere, it's probably not some secret military equipment. It could be drugs, but more likely it's either tanks or other compartments from a vessel that broke up at sea or shipping containers made to hold something that needs to be well protected from salt air, like precision scientific or optical instruments of some sort.
