they dont have rear seal per say. they have an oil slinger and some have a bolt on 2 piece rear seal that is really only there incase you decide to climb a 70% grade causing oil to rush to the back of the pan. the leak is could be the valve cover. the oil slinger design makes it impossible for oil to get out the back of the engine on flat ground. another possibility is he forgot ot put in the H seals on the main cap. do you have a manual? you can see these things there.
