Ed,

It was a two piece drive shaft that went out the back to a 90 degree gear box. The first shaft attaches to the rear output stubb of the PTO. The end of this shaft is supported by a carrier bearing. The second shaft attaches aft of the carrier bearing with another U-joint and then terminates at the gear box. The winch control handle must be in the neutral or disengaged position while using the rear box. I've seen pictures of some of the implements in action. My 49 B1PW has the long shaft and carrier bearing, but not the second shaft or gear box. If you ever find one, jump on it as they are extremely rare and sought after. You'd have no trouble selling it here.
