yes they are very heavy, slow turning, and gas guzzlers! i used to own a 68 GMC 2500(3/4 ton) pickup with the 351 V-6 and the torque was extremely impressive to say the least!ive still got the owners manual for the truck, here are GMC's specs for both V-6's that were avail. in mdl. 1500-3500 series. 305:7.75 compression ratio,170 gross HP @4000 rpm,157 net Hp @ 4000 rpm,277 ft/lb. gross torque @ 1600 rpm,263 net torque@ 1600. now for the 351: 7.5 comp.,220 gross hp @4000 rpm,190 net hp @3700,320 ft/lb gross torque @1600,304 ft/lb. net torque @1600.... thats a whole lot of torque down low where a 4x4 needs it!i cant imagine either the Mopar 383 or 440 put out much if any more torque at that low an rpm. the V-6's had very high volume cooling and lubrication systems and were capable of extreme durability. i know GMC used these engines in front of SM 420 and SM465 manual trannies and TH400 A/T's,i believe the 351 was only offered in 2wd,the 305 was used in both 2 and 4wd models..... good luck!
