I think it's OK. Depends on how and where you hooked up your meter? If you hooked meter to sender as an ohm meter, more resistance = less volts.If you hooked up as a volt meter at the gauge, less resistance in sender=more current to ground= less voltage for gauge=you better hook it up and see if it works!
