I can proudly say that I've run an 8 volt battery in my '56 c3c8 since 1996. I've only put 3,000 miles on it in that time, but I don't regret it one bit. I got very sick of cranking and cranking with the old 6 volt, wondering if it would start or not. The only change I made was with the regulator gaps to get the voltage up. I went by the adjustment procedure in the '56 shop manual I have, can't remember it off hand, tho. I don't remember the cost on the battery tho, but it wasn't bad. As far as lights go, I think I have only replaced the headlamps once each. Anyone thinking of doing it, I say go for it, especially if you're sick of cranking on it.
