Jim:

I have never done this at home, so this is talk, not experience, and is based on 3/4 ton trucks, not 1/2 ton, which is close but not identical. Anyway, I think one t/c bracket should bolt in and the other would need new holes drilled perhaps 2 inches further away from the original holes on the arched T/c frame member. The drive shaft can come off the t/c center rear if you get a yoke that bolts into the handbrake drum from a WC 62/63 6X6. The types of yokes are diffferent on WW II 1/2 and 3/4 ton military Dodge trucks, so you will have to make or piece together a "custom" rear drive shaft.
You already have the centered rear axle.

The 2 speed t/c should work quite well in a WC 1/2 ton. I've seen 2 speed t/c's bolted into WC 3/4 tons quite a few times, but haven't looked at too many 1/2 tons. I prefer my old Dodge 4X4's to be Rubenesque, like Sophia Loren, not underfed like Twiggy. ;). Glad to hear you are thinking of giving a half-ton some vitamins. :<> Fred
