Nice looking truck. Jr.! The hydraulic pumps for the Monroe lift on little jeeps and on the WDX Power Wagon ran off the engine (front crankshaft for jeep, V belt off crankshaft pulley for WDX) so the pump would be operating all the time and would operate independently of the transmission. With the pump running off the PTO, it stops whenever you push in the clutch, a real pain and inconvenience. You would have to shift the tranny to neutral, engage the PTO, then release the clutch to raise or lower the 3 point hitch when not moving. It would operate when moving, but gets complicated fast. I'm not sure you want the PTO engaged all the time when moving, for example.

PTO operated hydraulic pumps are good for occasional use when stationary, like raising a dump box, but not as good for constant use applications when the truck is moving, like a 3. lift or plowing snow. I vote for driving the hydraulic pump off the engine, probably by V belt. I've seen double pulleys mounteed on generators or alternators and the pump mounted on top or nearby. Good luck!
