towbars and towing

Need to pick your brains. This summer we are talking about going to Eastern Oregon to do some wheelin' with our trucks. I'll be the only one with with an old origional(SLOW) truck (1948 B-1-PW). As it is a long drive, about 150 to 200 miles, I would like to build a tow bar and tow it behind my 1/2 ton Ford (go figure!!). Is this even feasible or safe, as the Power Wagon is almost 9000 lbs (unfortunately I don't have a trailer big enough). Also when towing what do I have to do to insure I don't damage the drive train.
