You don't state whether you have a manual or automatic - makes a huge difference. Let's say you have either a NP435 or a 3spd auto with high gear = direct. A way to increase performance without engine mods is what the guy in Bishop did: increase your axle gearing from say 3.23 to 3.54 or even 3.90 and add a Gear Vendors OD, ratio 0.78:1. Then your final top gear ratio will be either 2.76 or 3.04, taller, which will increase mpg by 3-8% (1/2-1 mpg) but performance will be increased considerably in the non-overdrive gears.
